Modelling biological or engineering swarms is challenging due to the inherently high dimension of system, despite often low-dimensional emergent dynamics. Most existing swarm modelling approaches are based on first principles and result in swarm-specific parameterizations that do not generalize a broad range applications. In this work, we apply purely data-driven method (1) learn local interactions homogeneous through observation data (2) generate similar swarming behaviour using learned model. particular, modified version dynamic mode decomposition with control, called swarmDMD, developed tested canonical Vicsek The goal use swarmDMD inter-agent give rise observed behaviour. We show can faithfully reconstruct dynamics, model by provides short prediction window for extrapolation trade-off between accuracy horizon. also provide comprehensive analysis efficacy different types modelling, where find distance yields most accurate models. believe proposed approach will be useful studying multi-agent systems found biology, physics, engineering.
